2013-2014 COLORADO SPRINGS SCHOLASTIC CHESS SERIES

We are delighted to announce the schedule for the 2013-2014 Colorado Springs Scholastic Chess Series (CSSCS). The 2013-2014 season will be our twelfth season and we have many exciting features and prizes.

HERE'S WHATS HAPPENING FOR THE 2013-2014 RATED CSSCS:

1.) The 2013-2014 season will be held at a NEW LOCATION. The events will be held at the Colorado Springs Chess Center, 308 W. Fillmore Ave., Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80907. We have the entire downstairs of this facility with 5 rooms.

2.) New for 2013-2014 will be Rated players grouped by Rating, rather than grade. All too often, wide spreads in ratings among age groups create ratings mismatches. These mismatches are often disliked by BOTH the higher, and lower rated players. Class events are HIGHLY popular in Europe and ensure all rounds are competitive and exciting.

3.) Players will be grouped into 8 player sections by ratings, and will compete for CASH PRIZES. Most rated scholastic players have expressed a desire to play for cash prizes rather than trophies or other such awards.

4.) Each event will be 3 rounds and the time control will be G\60 with a 5 second delay. This longer time control than in the past has been requested by many rated players, and will make for higher quality chess.

5.) All events will also have an unrated OPEN section. This section is a low cost event for players who just want to PLAY CHESS!! It will be the same number of rounds and the same time control as the other sections.

HERE'S WHATS HAPPENING FOR THE 2013-2014 UNRATED, CSSCS:

1.) We are pleased to announce our NEW LOCATION. This season's events will be held at the Colorado Springs Chess Center, 308 W. Fillmore Ave., Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80907. We have the entire downstairs of this facility, with 5 rooms.

2.) As always, All participants will receive an award or prize! No player will ever go home empty handed. Awards\prizes will be different for each event.

3) This season, the UNRATED and RATED events will be played on SEPARATE days. This will allow for different numbers of rounds, and different time controls for each group.

4) All events (UNRATED and RATED) will have an unrated OPEN section. This section is a low cost event for players who just want to PLAY CHESS!! It will be the same number of rounds and the same time control as the other sections.

5.) One or two events per year will be declared a "bragging rights" event, with an added "prize" or two in each division.

6) Look for fun special contests, such as hat day, T-shirt day etc. With prizes of course!!
